Prerequisites

• Ensure you have the Hadoop QuickStart VM running

• Verify that Hadoop is running by checking the HDFS services. hdfs dfs -ls /

  

Creating the WordCount Application

Step 1: Launch Eclipse IDE

Open Eclipse from your desktop shortcut or applications menu.

Create a Java Project with Required Libraries

1. File → New → Java Project
2. Name your project “WordCount”
3. Add Hadoop libraries to your project classpath:
   • Right-click your project → Properties → Java Build Path → Libraries → Add External JARs
   • Navigate to Hadoop installation directory and add core Hadoop JARs

Implement the WordCount Program

Create a new Java class named WordCount.java and paste the following code:

Code Explanation:

• TokenizerMapper: Splits input text into words and emits each word with count 1
• IntSumReducer: Aggregates word counts by summing values for each word
